Cultural anthropologists study modern cultures to understand the practices, norms, and values of different societies around the world. Cultural anthropologists often gather information about cultures through a fieldwork method called "participant observation," in which they immerse themselves in a culture to learn the language and practices of the people they are studying. The end product of participant observation is a richly detailed report called an ethnography.
