The accounting industry is sufficiently expansive to allow specialization and certifications in areas of interest. Although most non-accountants are familiar with the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), many are not familiar with its corporate counterpart, the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or its government counterpart, the Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).
